The Tourism Alliance has today published a 10-point policy agenda for 2023. Each of the policies it outlines would boost tourism and help the UK economy recovery from Covid and the cost-of-living crisis.
The ten policies are:
1. Introduce a Youth Group Travel Scheme for EU Student Groups
2. Increase Funding for International Marketing
3. Introduce a Low-Cost Five Year Visitor Visa
4. Reinstate the VAT Reclaim Scheme
5. Revise the Package Travel Regulations
6. Fully Implement the De Bois Review
7. Expand and Reform the Youth Mobility Scheme
8. Reduce the VAT Rate For Hospitality and Attractions
9. Use ETAs to Boost Business Tourism
10. Reform Business Rates

This new publication shows that the UK tourism industry has grown by £18.5bn since 2016. This 14.5% growth brings the total expenditure by tourists in the UK to £149.5bn, making tourism one of the UKs largest and most successful industries.

A European Court of Justice ruling is set to damage the growth of the UK tourism industry by force British companies to relocate overseas. The ruling states that Business-to-Business sales of tourism packages are now subject to TOMS, which makes having a business based in the UK uneconomic.
