The Package travel Regulations are a piece of EU Red Tape that severely impacts the growth of the UK domestic tourism industry. Amending the Regulations will increase domestic tourism revenue by £2.2bn per annum and create 40,000 new jobs.

The Government's goals are to return domestic tourism revenue to 2019 levels by the end of 2022 and inbound tourism revenue to 2019 levels by 2023. However, these goals will not be achieved without £20bn of new policy initiatives. This document sets out a range of policy options to ensure the Government's goals are attained.

The Tourism Alliance has provided a lengthy submission to the Independent Review of Destination Management Organisations setting out the need for there to be a sustainable funding stream that incentivises DMOs to form consortia in order for the benefits of tourism development and growth to be maximised for local communities.

The Tourism Alliance has worked with the Cut Tourism VATcampaign, UkHospitality and ALVA on a study of the impact of the VAT cut for hospitality and Attractions.
This survey found that 74% of businesses considered that it was vital to their survival and that removing the reduction as planned on 1 April 2021 would result in 310,000 further job losses.
