Japanese government urges Brits to Visit Japan

Last week a reception was held at the Japanese Embassy in London to launch the Visit Japan Campaign to Britain.

The Japanese government is investing £16m in promoting the country across the world.

The campaign began last year focusing on the US, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and South Korea and this year is being extended to cover the UK, France and Germany.

A promotion committee has been set up to discuss the best way ahead for the campaign, whose members include representatives from Wales Tourist Board, VisitBritain and VisitScotland, as well as Virgin Atlantic Airways, Japan Airlines and British Airways.

The first meeting of the committee, held before the launch on 5 May, decided that key points to be addressed in the campaign included dispelling the belief that Japan is an expensive destination.

Japan Air and the Star Alliance are offering special discount Japan sir passes in support of the campaign.
