Research by the Tourism Alliance, UKinbound, ETOA, English UK and BETA shows that the new requirement for all students to have passports to enter the UK from the EU has resulted in a 83% (£875m) decline in revenue from this market.

The Package travel Regulations are a piece of EU Red Tape that severely impacts the growth of the UK domestic tourism industry. Amending the Regulations will increase domestic tourism revenue by £2.2bn per annum and create 40,000 new jobs.

The Government's goals are to return domestic tourism revenue to 2019 levels by the end of 2022 and inbound tourism revenue to 2019 levels by 2023. However, these goals will not be achieved without £20bn of new policy initiatives. This document sets out a range of policy options to ensure the Government's goals are attained.

The new regulations came into force on 1 July 2018. These new regulations significantly expand the scope of the existing Package Travel Regulations and businesses are advised to check their products and their arrangements with other businesses to ensure that they are compliant with the new regulations.

This evidence highlighted the need to develop transport and braodband infrastructure, resolve funding issues for rural DMOS, review planning to facilitate appropriate tourism development and address tax issues than impede investment
