The Tourism Alliance, the travel and hospitality industry umbrella body, has announced some strategic management changes effective January 1st 2004.

Richard Tobias, who previously held the post of Deputy Chairman, has been appointed Director General; Digby Jones, who previously held the post of Chairman, has been appointed President. Other management changes include Bob Cotton (British Hospitality Association) appointed Chairman of the management board, Ian Reynolds (ABTA) appointed Treasurer and Tony Millns (ARELS), Secretary. Announcing the changes, Digby Jones, CBI Director General, said: "The Tourism Alliance is the principal communications and lobbying body between the industry and government. These changes will strengthen the Alliance and will enable it to become an even more effective organisation in these most challenging of times". Richard Tobias, who stepped down as BITOA chief executive earlier this year said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to take forward the work of the Tourism Alliance. "Britain’s tourism industry is a £76 billion pound a year business representing 5% of GDP. It needs a strong voice with government and the appointment of an experienced and well-respected team will help ensure that tourism development receives the investment, support and recognition it merits."
