This seminar aims to bring together all the current research
and thinking on Tourism Taxes from proposals being developed by individual
destinations such as Manchester and Liverpool and the yet to be released
results of the LGAs latest research through to the findings of the Hospitality
APPG inquiry and the results of ETOAs research on the application of tourism
taxes in various European destinations.
The funding of destinations for the maintenance, development
and promotion of local tourism resources is a critical issue for the future
development of the UK tourism industry. This seminar aims to provide members
with the latest research and thinking available to inform the debate as to who
should fund this activity and most appropriate mechanism for doing so.

This years Tourism Research Seminar brings together the
findings of recent important and innovative tourism research initiatives from
the recent Independent Office for Statistics Regulations investigation of
whether ONSs IPS survey is fit for purpose through to UKinbounds important
new research on the impact of Brexit on UK tourism businesses and the Tourism
Alliances work for BEIS on reducing regulatory burden for tourism SMEs. There
is also London Firsts game-changing research on how big data can be used to
accurately map tourism flows and inform destination marketing campaigns. This
is one of the most exciting pieces of tourism research Ive seen for many years
and showcases what could be achieved as a result of establishing the Tourism
Deals Data Hub.
