Tuesday 27 May 2003, 8:47 AM
The Alliance has welcomed the Government’s decision to back London’s bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
Richard Tobias, Tourism Alliance Deputy chairman said:
“I am delighted the Government has put its support behind London’s bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the very best of Britain and will be a huge boost to Britain’s tourism industry before, during and after the Games. The potential benefits and legacy in social and economic terms to London and the rest of Britain are enormous”.
Tourism and hospitality businesses have unreservedly supported the bid and are already beginning to lay plans to ensure that visitors to London receive the highest levels of service in hotels, restaurants and attractions throughout the region and beyond.
“It is not just London that will benefit. Millions of overseas visitors will take the opportunity to see many other parts of Britain and the Tourism Alliance will be working with organisations around the country to capitalise on this once in a generation opportunity. The Commonwealth Games, held in Manchester, demonstrated that we have the skills, the enthusiasm and the determination to ensure that the 2012 London Olympics will be the best ever”
