Tourism Spending Priorities

Tuesday 02 April 2002, 12:18 PM

Digby Jones, chairman of the Tourism Alliance and director-general of the CBI, has officially launched the Tourism Alliance's first key strategic report "Tourism Spending Priorities".

The report identifies longer-term strategic spending proposals and priorities for tourism in anticipation of the forthcoming Comprehensive Spending Review. The report urges the Government to recognise that the tourism sector is striving to modernise, upgrade and generally restructure itself, allowing it to place greater emphasis and investment on raising industry standards and responding to the needs of the consumer. Digby Jones, said: "If the government plays its part, the UK tourist industry sees no reason why its key target of creating 300,000 jobs over the next five years cannot be met."
