Tourism Alliance Condemns Government for VisitBritain Redundancies

The tourism industry is dismayed to learn that VisitBritain (the UK's National Tourist Board) is being forced to cut staff numbers by almost 20% - making 80 positions redundant in its London and European offices - to offset the Government's failure to provide any increase in overseas marketing funding for more than 10 years.

New Tourism Planning Guidance will Help the Industry

The Department for Communities and Local Government (formally ODPM) has launched the new Good Practice Guide for Tourism Planning. The Tourism Alliance has been working with the Department for Communities and Local Government over the last nine months to ensure that the Guidance provides a framework within which one of Britain's largest industries can grow and prosper while protecting the natural, historic and cultural resources on which it is based.

Tourism Meeting with Prime Minister Yields Olympic Games Statement of Intent

At a breakfast meeting with the Prime Minister today, the Tourism Alliance signed a Statement of Intent between the Tourism Industry and the Government regarding the 2012 Olympic games. Tourism Alliance Chairman, Brigid Simmonds, also outlined what the Government needed to do next to support the industry.
