The Government has released its response to the recent Select Committee Report concerning structural reforms to tourism support. It was presented to Parliament on 01 April by the Secretary of State Tessa Jowell.

The Tourism Alliance has appointed Richard Tobias as its first Deputy Chairman. Tobias has worked in and is well known to the industry and joins the Alliance from the British Incoming Tour Operators Association where he held the post of Chief Executive for 10 years. He takes up his new role on March 1st.

NEW CHAIRMAN APPOINTED TO DRIVE FORWARD TOURISM REFORM The Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell, today announced the appointment of Sir Michael Lickiss as the new tourism chief.

Secretary of State Tessa Jowell set out her intentions on reforming licensing full to an audience of senior leisure industry executives at the Business Sport and Leisure Annual Conference and Exibition held on 20th November at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. This was be her first major speech on licensing reform, since the Bill was confirmed in the Queen's Speech on 13th November. In her speech she covered how deregulation will be rolled out, and how the controls given to Local Authorities will contribute towards reducing the Government's crime and disorder targets. Other speakers on the subject included Sir Brian Stewart CBE, Chairman of Scottish & Newcastle, and Cllr Susie Kemp, Head of Public Protection at the Local Government Association.

Minutes of Tourism Alliance Plenary: 7 November 2002

This was the third full meeting of the Tourism Alliance. The primary purpose of the meeting was to hear members’ comments, and to consider the Alliance's formal response to the DCMS' announcement regarding the restructuring of the delivery of tourism.
